Preface

Since its establishment in March 2005, KangNam Labor Law Firm has focused on foreign-invested companies and expatriate professionals, providing professional advice for human resources departments about labor law. In particular, we have published two volumes: the bilingual Korean Labor Law Bible(4th Ed.), which systematically explains Korean labor law, and the bilingual Korean Labor Law : Disputes and Resolutions(2nd Ed.), a collection of actual labor cases in which Kangnam Labor Law Firm provided the representing labor attorneys. In addition, we have published 2,000 copies of the bilingual “Labor Cases” magazine every quarter since spring 2008, distributing them to foreign-invested companies free of charge.
This time, Kangnam Labor Law Firm has published A Bilingual Code of Korean Labor Law, which you hold in your hands. Covering 26 labor laws, as well as the Constitution of Korea, this bilingual code will allow us to continue to provide professional support to our target field of clients : expatriates and foreign-invested companies.
A Bilingual Code of Korean Labor Law has been edited by a specialized team of KangNam Labor Law Firm attorneys and is based upon the translated English labor laws and enforcement ordinances by the Ministry of Employment and Labor. Hereafter, new editions of A Bilingual Code of Korean Labor Law will include improved translated legal terms in labor law towards common acceptance according to global standards. Our purposes for publishing A Bilingual Code of Korean Labor Law include : ease and rapidity of looking up and referring to Korean labor law with our expatriate clients (present & future), and to more professionally assist our regularly retained foreign-invested companies in legal services.
It is my desire that A Bilingual Code of Korean Labor Law will be widely and frequently referred to by HR & Labor managers, labor attorneys and lawyers, and that this first edition will be a cornerstone towards building a better labor law code (in linguistic terms) in future editions. And finally, I would like to commend and express my appreciation to the labor attorneys at KangNam Labor Law Firm for their dedication and special effort in editing this bilingual code of labor laws.
